Paula Schaeffer is the Leader of Community Collaboration and Administration for the Section of Safety, Advocacy & Healing in the Department of Pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine.  She holds a master’s degree in psychology and has over 22 years of experience in the field of child abuse.  She serves as  co-chair of the Governor’s Task Force MDT Evaluation Committee and is a member of the  National Children’s Alliance Workforce Development Project: Medical Working Group

Sessions

Workshop will discuss how to engage families on the benefits of the medical exam after a forensic interview.  Will highlight CT medical availability across the state. Will discuss what happens during the medical appointment beyond the physical exam highlighting cases throughout the presentation.  Ways medical providers interact with partners in the MDT. 
 
Learning Objectives: 
  1. How to engage families in the medical and ways to offer it to all families at the CAC 
  2. Discuss how medicals help children and families through case examples
  3. Compare medical care at CAC and how it differs from medical care in ED’s and with PCP’s and how and when to access them
